True identity-markers, clothes might allow to say who we are and what is in the works, through merely their shape or style. Clothes accompany us when we leave our internal universe to penetrate the outside world. They are our companions in good times and tough times.

Hawaii’s hula grass skirt was born in the 1800s. This ritual costume was of great importance because the hula consisted of more than 300 dances performed by men or women, each with its own meaning. Chants or prose often accompanied the hula dances, as a way of telling stories or praising the gods. Missionaries stopped the hula dancing in the 1830’s but in the 1870’s, hula became part of the Hawaiian culture again.
