The ropes are made of wasted plastic gathered from garbage pitches in Mogadishu by displaced women. These women belong to minority clans, and it is very hard for them to find livelihoods. Laundry being a big business in the city, they gather plastic from the garbage to make these ropes.

In 2013, humanitarian organization started a small project whereby the World Food Programme will give empty plastic bags to groups of displaced women in Mogadishu to make ropes and other objects thus creating safer conditions for the livelihoods of these women, their families and community.

These ropes were a gift from a dear friend who sadly is no longer in life.
