This decorative brass sculpture that depicts three small birds joined together comes from Smyrna. The sculpture belongs to the mother of one of the members of the Basket Gallery.

“This object comes from a wealthy family of Greeks that had resettled in Peristeri (Athens) from Izmir. As a child, I used to visit their house and was impressed by two things: their piano and these three little birds, which they handed me as a gift. That family was fortunate enough to leave Smyrna before the great catastrophe. My grandmother, on the other hand, left with absolutely nothing. She had to abandon her home at noon, the table still set for lunch. The only thing she carried in her hands when she left were her own children”.
