Banknote of 100 ruble featuring a portrait of Empress Catherine the Great on the back and in a watermark. These were amongst the last banknotes issued under the Russian Tsars and measure approximately 12X25 centimeters (5X10 inches).

At the time, their worth was 4 ounces (113,4 grams) of gold which is why those fleeing the revolution stuffed their suitcases with them. This item comes from the belongings of the great-grandparents of one of the members of «The Basket Gallery» team who fled to Greece from the Caucasus (Kars region) in 1919. It was found folded several times and placed in a small pouch.
