This small patchwork is made of stripes of different used fabrics. It was crafted by Syrian refugee women in Azraq refugee camp in Jordan during 2016.
Azraq is one of Jordan’s two camps for Syrian refugees. It hosts 40,000 people. The other camp, Za’atari, hosts close to 80,000 Syrian refugees.
Jordan is home to the second-highest share of refugees per capita in the world. The country of 11 million hosts more than 660,000 registered Syrian refugees, but the actual total, considering those unregistered, is estimated at around 1.3 million. Over 19,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria are also registered in Jordan. Most of the refugees live in urban and rural areas and not in camps.
