THE NATURAL WORLD AND HANDBAGS

Bag designs have long been inspired by the vibrant colors and shapes of the natural world. Pineapples, for example, became a symbol of opulence and exoticism after their introduction in Europe in the 17th century. ‘Pineapple Mania’ reached a pinnacle in the 19th century England when pineapple-shaped bags and accessories were the heigh of fashion.

LULU’S GARDEN OF DELIGHTS

Lulu Guinness is a British designer of accessories who originally launched her company in 1989. She has said that Elsa Schiaparelli has been her greatest inspiration. Her bag designs are often prompted by bouquets, pots and baskets laden with garden flowers or fruits. Guinness’ The Florist Basket forms a permanent part of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s “The Cutting Edge: 50 Years of British Fashion 1947-1997” exhibition in London.

In 2009, she received The Independent Handbag Designer Awards ICONOCLAST Award for her 20 years in accessories design.

This Lulu Guinness strawberry-themed piece was created in the United Kingdom during the 1990s. It mixes colorful cotton with pale tinted straw to create a cheerful and eye-catching handbag.
