As the full-skirted dresses of the mid-eighteenth century gave way to the slim, columnar neo-classical fashions of the late 18th and 19th century, the drawstring bag hung from the wrist started to make their appearance. These bags known as reticules were often satirically referred to as ‘ridicules’. Once women had adjusted to using them, many called them “indispensables” (and rightly so!).
There a probably more than 30-40 types of handbags. This specific yellow, woven wrist ‘indispensable’ comes from the Italian brand Maurizio Tauiti. Long and narrow, this bag resembles a French loaf of bread, a baguette. Founded in 1958, Maurizio Taiuti takes pride in its using of Italian materials.
