“Music and songs from elsewhere”, 18 and 19 October 2023, 19:30
As part of the current exhibition “1923-2023: Stories of forced displacement”, Τhe Basket Gallery is pleased to invite you to a musical evening with traditional Greek songs from Anatolia and traditional Turkish songs of Thessaloniki also known as “Selanik Türküsü”. These songs share experiences and feelings connected to the population exchange of 1923. They speak of the tough times and the hearts that never lost hope. The musical journey will be closed with two Sephardic songs.
With Katerina Batalogianni (vocals), Aristotelis Dimitrakopoulos (saxophone) and Dimitris Stavrou (oud).

The performance of the songs will be accompanied by a presentation related to the origin and content of the lyrics, as well as some of the stories behind them.
