The story of Cinderella is an ancient legend found in many cultures. The narrative usually involves a piece of footwear: lost in the beginning, it becomes the sign by which the pretty, yet underprivileged heroine is finally identified. On other occasions, the fairy tale focuses on the girl’s family where an evil sister working together with an evil stepmother or a second evil sister end up being punished for giving the protagonist a hard time.

The tale of Rhodopis, whose straw slipper was snatched by an eagle while she was bathing, the adventures of Ye Xian, the Chinese Cinderella who took comfort in the company of a golden fish, the Indonesian version with the Red Onion and Garlic sisters, the story of Tấm and Cám from Vietnam, the Indian myth of the girl who sat by the fire and the Invisible Creature as well as several European variants of the universal story have all inspired 7 comic creators from Thessaloniki who illustrated their own version of Cinderella.

Completing the cycle of its first major exhibition “Glittering Diamonds and Magic Straws”, “The Basket Gallery” presents “Cinderellas of the World” with the participation of the following artists:  Efi Theodoropoulou, Dimitris Kamenos, Stavros Kioutsioukis, Anestis Mavrommatis-Parasidis, Eirini Skoura, Christos Stampoulis, Manolis Frangidis.

The exhibition will open on Wednesday, June the 21^st 2023 at 19:00 in the space of “The Basket Gallery” (Karaoli & Dimitriou ton Kyprion 36, Antigonidon area). During the opening a sketch event will take place where Stavros Kioutsioukis will be drawing the audience as leading characters of the various Cinderella fairy tales. The exhibition will last until Sunday, June 2^nd. Following that, the gallery will be closed for summer and will be returning in September with a brand-new major exhibition and a series of side events which will take place throughout the year.
